Located in Norton, KS. Norton County is seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to serve as the Road & Bridge Supervisor. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, construction, and safety of the county's transportation infrastructure, including road, bridges, and culverts.
The Road & Bridge Supervisor performs high-level administrative and supervisory work under the direction of the Board of County Commissioners. The successful candidate will manage department personnel, equipment, and resources to ensure essential services are provided for public safety and welfare.
Duties
- Operations Management: Plan, organize, and direct the daily activities of road crews, including maintenance, paving, and construction projects.
- Infrastructure Oversight: Develop specifications and cost estimates for the repair and replacement of county roads, bridges, and culverts.
- Personnel Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise department employees; manage schedules and perform evaluations.
- Budgeting: Prepare and monitor the department's annual budget, including tracking expenditures for materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce departmental safety policies (including OSHA and KDOT regulations) and serve as the department's safety officer.
- Emergency Response: Coordinate snow removal and emergency response operations during weather events or natural disasters.
- Public Relations: Address and resolve citizen concerns and complaints regarding road conditions or drainage issues.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma
- Experience: Significant experience in road construction and maintenance is required, with a least 2-3 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Licensing: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Kansas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Skills: Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, ability to interpret blueprints and technical data, and strong communication skills.
