Scams are increasing as the world becomes more digitalized. Below are some helpful links to help you learn more about the common types of scams that have been circulating and are not exclusive to just Kansas.
If you receive a call regarding paying a fine/fee to remove any outstanding warrants, jail time, pending traffic citations or jury duty, and the party on the phone has insisted you pay an amount to have the warrant/criminal charges dropped; DO NOT give out your credit/debit card information, any sensitive information like bank account information, dates of birth or social security numbers. The court will never ask for any payments to be made via gift cards or any crypto type currency. If the person you are communicating with has asked for any of the above information, hang up and contact either the district court or sheriffs office to confirm whether or not the above is present. DO NOT click on any links sent through text or email if you do not know who the sender is.
The District Courts and Federal Courts for Kansas do mail out jury summons, if you are unsure if the summons you received from either court is legitimate; contact the courts and ask to speak with the jury department for more information as they will be able to tell you if a summons has been sent out recently.
